Hawzah News Agency- Dr. Mwinyi made the remarks during a meeting with Mohammad Javad Hematpanah, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Republic of Tanzania, who paid a formal introductory visit to the Presidential Palace in Zanzibar.
Zanzibar Invites Iranian Investment in Blue Economy, Industry
During the meeting, President Mwinyi emphasized the necessity of broadening bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, technology, industry, agriculture, healthcare, trade, and oil and gas. He extended a formal invitation to the Islamic Republic of Iran to invest in Zanzibar, with particular emphasis on the blue economy and industrial sectors.
The blue economy—encompassing fisheries, maritime transport, tourism, and offshore resources—forms a cornerstone of Zanzibar's long-term development strategy, and Iranian expertise in these areas is viewed as a valuable asset.
Iran Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Ties
For his part, Ambassador Hematpanah commended President Mwinyi's leadership and the developmental reforms undertaken in Zanzibar, expressing the Islamic Republic of Iran's firm determination to continue and deepen cooperation with the archipelago through investment and the exchange of experience, knowledge, and technology across various sectors.
The Iranian envoy underscored that the Islamic Republic views its relationship with Zanzibar as part of a broader commitment to fostering South-South cooperation and supporting the economic self-sufficiency of African nations.
The meeting marks a further step in the growing ties between Iran and Zanzibar, reflecting Tehran's expanding engagement with East Africa as part of its strategic outreach across the continent.
